1938

After sending Augustus R. Terhune age 84 years old at the time, who lived in Delray Beach Florida,
Hackensack High School class of 1938, a form through his address in the Almuni book in May, 2004, he replied with a personal letter answering my question of wheather he knew my aunt who graduated in 1940.

On the form he stated that he was in the Army Corp of Engineers and had rose to the rank of Master Sergeant.  The medals he received he noted ‘the usual’, but only for those who served.

The medals are: Mediterranean Theater Ribbon Rome, Arno, Tunisia, Campaign, American Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal

Augustus R. Terhune served from September 16, 1940 until May 26, 1945.

The Terhune family name runs deep in Bergen County, a walk through most local cemeteries in Hackensack and surrounding towns will sometimes pre-date the Civil War.
